My Buick

I bought a car.

First, a description of the old car, a 2002 beige Buick Regal with 164,000 miles.

I wanted to keep driving it, but the transmission does not cooperate with me anymore. It will let me drive for about 30 seconds at a time. And then it waits until the car is shut off and restarted before it will work again. Since it would lengthen my commute time considerably to drive in that manner, I bought a replacement car while I decided whether to put more money into the Regal.

Here’s another shot of the Regal, so you can see what happened when a pickup truck decided to enter the same stretch of road that the Regal was already occupying.

Nothing was broken, so I just bent the sheet metal back so the headlight wouldn’t point up as much and kept driving it.

And the A/C didn’t work ($600 to fix) and the oil light was always on ($200 to fix correctly, $0 to fix easily) and the gas gauge didn’t work ($??? to fix, free to rely on trip odometer).

The transmission was the last straw.

So I bought a car. “New” as in new to me. It’s a 2001 beige Buick LeSabre with 110,000 miles. That’s about 4 years’ worth of driving to catch up to the Regal. It was cheap enough to be worth it.

You may be thinking that I cut off the photo so you wouldn’t see the bad side of the LeSabre. But no, this is the bad side here.

Look at how clean the trunk is.

I’m pretty sure I couldn’t get the Regal’s trunk to look that clean no matter how hard I tried.

And this:

A front bench seat! None of them fancy new cars have that option.

So now I have a slightly older car, but one with AC and working gauges and fewer miles.

The only downside is that it is not as sporty as the Regal. The LeSabre is a little bigger and heavier, so it doesn’t accelerate as quickly as I wish it would. Maybe that’s why the Regal’s transmission gave up.

But you will chase your enemies and they will fall before you by the sword;
